The No.1 Thing to Skyrocket My Sales

Whilst driving back from a weekend away with a friend  in London, I listened to an interview on BBC Radio One with Lina Nielson, the Olympic sprinter.

Currently preparing for the Olympics this Summer in Paris, Lina shared everything she was doing to prepare herself both physically and mentally. During the interview, a caller rang in to ask if she had a routine for the morning of the days she competes. What she said really surprised me, but then having given it some thought I could totally see her logic and in fact, I've realised I do exactly the same in my work too!

Lina explained that on the days that she competes, she spends 2 hours...2 HOURS!! Doing her hair and make up! I love it! She says she runs with a full face of make up and her hair done. Good for you I thought!

She went on to explain, when she makes an effort with her appearance it makes her feel good, which makes her more confident stepping onto the tracks which she believes makes her perform better!

And it's true!

When we feel our best, we perform as the best versions of ourselves!

And I can tell you I have noticed the same in my work too.

Those days I am feeling my best, I do better. When I've taken the time to wash my hair or pick out an outfit that I feel good in, you can guarantee my mindset is totally different. I have a 'can do' attitude, a spring in my step and my energy levels are bouncing!!

I'm much more likely to show up online, put my face on camera and make quality content for my audience when I'm feeling good. And when I feel good, it comes across in my videos and writing. I'm energetic, passionate and inspiring and the beauty of that is it rubs off on those that interact with my business. It radiates through the phone and makes them feel good too. And when my audience feels good they want to engage, like, comment and tell others about my work. They want to read my blogs, watch my videos and buy my products. We know that 'people buy from people' so what better way to make connection than with positive, feel-good communication!

And it's the same when dealing with problems within business. Whether its a technical fault or an unhappy customer. With a positive mindset I am able to deal with it, see it as a learning curve and find a solution. If I'm not feeling my best it's going to have quite the opposite effect. I am going to see the issue as another reason why I should give up, that I'm not good enough and evidence that I should quit.

Yes, how feel has a direct impact on your businesses performance!

And how do I make sure I am feeling my best when running two businesses and raising three children?? These three things;

1. Looking after my mindset. I personally like to journal so make sure I do this as much as possible. It helps me to practice being grateful, imagine myself as my best version and get all of the thoughts in my head out on paper. This instantly reduces feelings of overwhelming and definitely encourages a positive mindset. Daily affirmations and meditation can also be really effective for this!

2. Eating well, taking breaks, moving my body and getting good sleep. Yes the fitness gurus have been telling us for years but only now I am learning it for myself and cannot believe the difference! No more thinking I have to work every second of the day that my child is in childcare to justify the expense. Now I appreciate the importance of taking the time to look after me too!

3. Prioritising time with my children. I currently have three young children so for me, my priority is being here for them. I want to be at home, I want to do the school run (less wet ones would be nice, but still!!) and I want to work around them. My family energise me. My kids are my why and they remind me why I do what I do. Right now, this is what success looks like for me. It's different for everyone and that's ok. But designing my work and business to be flexible and happen around the kids means the world to me. And after years of teaching, I really appreciate my ability to choose how and when I work.
